Mardi Gras 2020
The cheap plastic around my neck dangles and swings sounding like windchimes. The shadows of trees drape and fall over the streetcars that run up and down St. Charles Ave. I walk with my newly made friends to the parade route passing colorful houses, day-drinkers and the church that sells burgers and liquor. We stand with the other college kids near tents with surplus of alcohol. Across the street sits families in their fold up chairs. Little kids sit atop ladders in painted wooden crates, so as to see over the tops of people’s heads.
